MALET, Léo. HURLE À LA VIE. Illustrations by André Masson. P - Lot 102
MALET, Léo. HURLE À LA VIE. Illustrations by André Masson. Paris, Editions Surréalistes, 1940, large 8vo, paperback. First edition printed in a run of 150 copies: 1/148 copies on bibliographic vellum. A rare copy belonging to Noël Arnaud, featuring his bookplate and an autographed dedication: “To Noël Arnaud, this is Chapter IV of *Le Crime*, a poem written at the dawn of—and in opposition to—*La Cochonnerie Sanglante*, for which you demanded—and this is to your credit, whatever the tricolor chauvinists may think—an immediate end. Fraternally, Léo Mallet 7/43.” Léo Mallet and Noël Arnaud were members of *La Main à la Plume* and co-authored, among other things, the pamphlet “*Nom de Dieu!*” taking aim at Georges Bataille. Enclosed: An original pencil drawing by Léo Mallet, signed and mounted beneath the dedication. Please insert. The extremely rare trailer on pink paper: “The rectory has lost none of its charm, nor the garden any of its splendor. Miss Stangerson,” an allusion to the enigmatic phrase from Gaston Leroux’s *The Mystery of the Yellow Room*. A very fine copy.
