In-4 square (300 x 290 mm) of [14] pp. 16 plates, [2] pp. in leaves, in filled cover; publisher's folder and slipcase. First edition of Bachelard's text. First and only edition of this suite of 16 drypoints by Marcoussis. Edition of 70 copies on BFK de Rives vellum. One of the 7 head copies (no. 1), with two copperplates: L'astrologue and Les lignes de la main (scratched), as well as proofs of the preface and proofs of the print run. "Malène, the daughter of Marcoussis, married to a friend of my brother Alain, introduced me to the studio on rue Moreau, where I discovered the engraved work of her father. The 16 plates of Les Devins, the ultimate work, were still in the proof stage. These copperplates had to be pulled before time altered them, before the workshop companions disappeared. I wanted I told Gaston Bachelard, our master at the Sorbonne, about my project, and he was enthusiastic about both the subject and the plates. Pierre Faucheux produced his first published book - a subscription form was distributed at an exhibition at La Hune in January '45, where Halicka welcomed pre-war survivors: Cocteau, Christian Bérard, Serge Lifar and other her husband's other models. Released in 1946, the book sold out within a year." Marcoussis Graveur, Collection Gheerbrant, Berggruen Cie, 1996. Printer: Camille Quesneville, Paris. Bibliography: Milet, 215-230.
