COCTEAU Jean. LA LAMPE D'ALADIN. Paris, Société d'Édition, 1909: in-8 (180 x 140 mm), 187-[5] pp. paperback. First edition of Jean Cocteau's first book, self-published at the age of twenty. Autograph letter signed on the front cover: "Je vous envoie mon premier volume cher monsieur Hirsch avec toute ma profonde et admirative affection. Jean Cocteau." The poet Charles-Henry Hirsch (1870-1948) was the literary columnist at the Mercure de France at the time. This letter must have met with a favorable response, since six months later Cocteau joined the Mercure and published Le Prince frivole.
