ARAGON. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED. - Lot 5
ARAGON. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED. [Essentouki (Caucasus, USSR): September 1934]: 2 pp. in-8 (185 x 148 mm), in purple ink. Small tears in the margin of the center fold. Letter from Aragon to his friend Pierre de Massot, whom he met in the course of the Dada movement and who later became a long-time companion of the Communist Party. A contributor to the magazine Orbes, he published the only article in the French press devoted to Hourra l'Oural. "Dear Pierre, your letter reaches me in the Caucasus, where I'm nursing my gall bladder. It touches me more than I can answer." Aragon apologizes for a long silence, which he explains by his illness (an inflamed gall bladder), his work at the editorial office of l'Humanité and his presence in Moscow for the Writers' Congress. Then comes the subject of the letter: "When Orbes appears, send it to me: the impressive silence of the press on Hourra l'Oural makes a note from you all the more pleasing. Les Cloches is due to appear in October, but publisher's problems make me fear a delay towards January, which could, given the political news of these days, be decisive for this book. Anyway, [... [...] By the way, you haven't mentioned the child. He's well, I hope? I've forgotten his name, but not him. For the AEAR, I'll write a note to Vaillant. But you know, you don't need protection to get in. You belong there, and I'm actually sorry you're not. Go and find Vaillant at L'Humanité, sometime around six or seven. From me."
